• U OF M ATHLETES VILLAGE

Construction of three new buildings on the athletics department's existing footprint. The cornerstone of the project is the new Land O'Lakes Center for Excellence, which will house a new academic center, Gopher Athletics' first nutrition center, as well as a leadership center focused on developing life skills, leadership and preparing student-athletes for successful professional careers outside of sports. This facility will serve all current and future Gopher student-athletes.

In addition, the Athletes Village will include the new Charlie and Kathy Cunningham Basketball Development Center (the first in the department's history), which will have dedicated practice and administrative spaces for both the men's and women's basketball program, as well as a new indoor practice facility and the David and Janis Larson Football Performance Center with strength and conditioning space, athletic training, offices, team rooms and more.

These new structures will allow the department to re-purpose and renovate existing spaces in the Bierman and Gibson-Nagurski buildings to better support all Gopher student-athletes and staff.

    Recent Updates:
Visual progress on the Athletes Village reached a fevered pitch during the coldest days this winter, with all three buildings quickly taking shape as foundations and footings were poured and walls rose up from the ground. The Land O'Lakes Center for Excellence is almost completely enclosed now as exterior windows are installed, with flooring and framing work continuing on the upper levels. Structural steel work on both the indoor practice facility and football performance centers is continuing, providing a visual of the scale of these buildings as well. In addition to new construction, demolition work has begun in the Bierman building lobby, which will become the new grand entrance to the Center for Excellence and the primary entrance to the entire Athletes Village once compete.
