• RiverFirst/Riverfront Work

    The RiverFirst initiative is a partnership between the Minneapolis Parks Foundation (MPF) and the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board (MPRB) to develop riverfront parks and trails on both sides of the Mississippi River from downtown Minneapolis to the northern city limits. The RiverFirst initiative will provide opportunities for recreation, walking, biking, historical interpretation, artistic performance, and civic engagement.

    Recent Updates:
    In early 2016 MPF and MPRB solicited Requests for Proposals for design development, construction administration and cultural resource consultant for Water Works. Selection and construction for the initial stage of the project are set to begin in 2016. Construction began along the Mississippi East Bank in May 2016. The .75-mile trail along the Northeast Minneapolis riverfront will open this fall, with off street trains for pedestrians and bicyclists.
