• 3rd Avenue South Redesign

Third Avenue South in downtown Minneapolis is being redesigned. When completed, the street will include protected bicycle lanes from the Convention Center to the Mississippi River. In addition to this new north-south bike connection through Downtown, the project will add greenery and make other improvements along the street. Construction is taking place during 2016 with the bike lanes being substantially completed, and ends in 2017 with plantings and new pavement markings for the protected bikeway.

3rd Avenue between 1st Street South and 16th Street East
    Beginning Project Date:
    June 3, 2016
    Project Completion:
    Spring/Summer 2017
    Recent Updates:
Work is wrapping up at 3rd Avenue as the new bike lane feature is installed. Remaining work is added greening and irrigation. The edge of the project intersects with the Washington Avenue project, which could cause traffic delays due to the construction at that intersection.
